When the Simeonidis family of Thompson, Manitoba, opened Santa Lucia in 1971 as a small take-out pizzeria, they quickly found success. This is because the restaurant is dedicated to serving its patron’s delicious food at reasonable pricing.
Their continued success can be attributed in part to the fact that they have maintained the same high standard of quality throughout all of their offerings, not just their pizza. They were successful because they continued to follow the custom of their forefathers, who had always prepared all of the family’s dough, bread, sauces, salad dressings, and traditional Greek dishes from scratch. A lot of people took note, and soon they were well-known for more than just their pizza.
Winnipeg’s local media have recognized Santa Lucia Pizza for its commitment to tradition by bestowing upon it several accolades, including “Best Pizza in Winnipeg” from Uptown Magazine, “Best Family Restaurant” from the Consumers’ Choice Awards, “Best Garlic Bread” from the Winnipeg Free Press, “Best Greek Salad” from the Winnipeg Tribune, and “Saskatoon Pizza Restaurant” from the Taste of Manitoba.
